E3 2012 Coverage

The Ubisoft press conference brought a mix of franchise extensions like the latest installment of fan favorite Assassin’s Creed, and new stand alone titles like ZombiU and Watch Dogs. Ubisoft continues its strategy of targeting a wide demographic of gamers with a little something for every gamer out there.

Just Dance 4

Ubisoft opened their conference with this announcement. This game is planning on being released in early October for the three major consoles and the WiiU. The game includes tracks from Nicki Minaj, Will Smith, The B-52’s, Pink and many more.

Far Cry 3

The preview for this included many story elements that will comprise this game. Apparently, the player character is here on the island to kill Vaas, the crazed man from the earlier trailers. The preview also showed many gameplay elements such as using a bow, fighting tigers, backstabbing and varying modes of transportation, such as skydiving and hang gliding.

These will be used to traverse through the world, which not only includes one island, but a whole archipelago.

Avengers: Battle For Earth

No gameplay was released for the game, but someone had to step in and use all the popularity the Avengers has recently obtained. Avengers: Battle for Earth will be released this fall for WiiU and Kinect. Also of note, Spider-Man and some X-Men appeared in the trailer so maybe the game isn’t just for the Avengers in the movie.

Rayman Legends

Just like Rayman: Origins, this game looks gorgeous and still has the same whimsical theme. Since it is an exclusive WiiU title, the player using the WiiU controllers controls a specific character that has access specific controls and sometimes can see certain different things around the level from playing on the controller.

The game looks to have the same tight controls, so people looking for some more Rayman should definitely be paying attention.

ZombiU

Formally Killer Freaks from Outer Space, this game has morphed from freaks to zombies. The tone has shifted into a much more serious one. This game is for the WiiU and is a first-person game.

Assassin’s Creed 3

The preview of Assassin’s Creed 3 looks to be living up to the hype that is surrounding it. The preview gave a glimpse of what we should expect from the game. First of all, running through the tree replaces running across buildings. The tree running looks intuitive and fun while still allowing quick movement through the scenery.

Another interesting aspect is hunting. Conner can shot deer and other animals as well as fight off aggressive animals like wolves. Then, players can trade the skin and meat from these animals to vendors. Ubisoft has also tweaked the combat, making Conner more deadly than either of his predecessors. This game looks to improve on the aspects of the previous entries while still offering a fresh and unique taste to the series.

Shootmania

In an attempt to get more FPS tailored for eSports, Ubisoft has created an online multiplayer shooter. From the preview they showed, the game will be highly objective based and will have different game modes that have varying rules.

For example, the match played in the preview had one player from a team attacking a point while the whole other team defended it. The catch was that the attacking player could take out their players in one hit. Hopefully there is variety in the matches that can make it fun to watch and play.

Watch Dogs

Easily one of the coolest games shown at E3 so far, this game takes the ideas from many different game series and combines them into what looks to be an amazing experience. The game features an open-world where characters have a variety of skills that can be used to interact with that world. Abilities like shutting off all the phones in the area or changing the streetlights to cause a crash.

Similar to games like Hitman or Deus Ex, different abilities can be used to cause different results to different gameplay systems. This game also includes gunplay and different abilities that can be associated with that. One of the most surprising reveals of the game was when the camera pulls back to reveal another character, Whether this is just co-op or a full-on multiplayer experience is still to be seen, but gamers should keep an eye on this game
