Cinco de Mayo’s got nothing on Yoda. On May 5th he’ll be busy cleaning up after the previous day’s ultimate Star Wars party. May 4th has been unofficially adopted as Star Wars Day by many of the franchise’s fans. A clever play on the films most popular line – “May the Force be with you” – fans admonish one another “May the Fourth be with you”.

According to sources the play on words first emerged in 1979 in a political campaign published in the wake of the films incredible popularity. Margret Thatcher, elected on May 4th 1979 as UK’s first female Prime Minister was congratulated by her party in an ad that stated “May the Fourth be with you, Maggie. Congratulations”.

“May the Fourth be with you” quickly caught on as a simple, tongue-in-cheek greeting for Star Wars fans worldwide.

If you’re a fan of Star Wars, but haven’t checked out Star Wars The Old Republic, we’re missing out. It’s a great game, with tremendous voice acting, incredible character & gear customization, intuitive gameplay, and engaging PVP. I played for several weeks before breaking away to focus on some high priority work projects – I WILL be back, maybe on my heal-specced Bounty Hunter… maybe on my DPS-specced Jedi Knight… either way the Fourth…er I mean the Force is calling my name!
