E3 2012 Coverage

The Electronic Arts press conference, much as predicted, was just ‘more of the same’. However, with a ton of gamer’s favorite series in their roster, there’s still a lot to like.  New franchise games include a couple of EA Sports title updates sports fanatic gamers, a few shooters, and a new Need for Speed among others.

Madden 13

Madden has been criticized for not integrating new features with there yearly entries, but they hope to change that with their 2013 football game. They have added a new physics and tackling engine based of height, weight and speed. EA also have linked together the separate careers from modes like superstar and franchise. They have also decided to integrate mobile devices into the series. Players will now be able to start games on the Madden Mobile app and then finish games on the consoles.

FIFA 13

This year FIFA is introducing many new systems to the game to make gameplay more responsive and to give characters a greater degree of control of their characters. Systems such as a new dribbling system and the first touch system will be used to accomplish this. FIFA is also granting bonuses for this new game if players have joined their EA Sports Football Club from FIFA 12. Levels and other perks will be added to FIFA 13 from FIFA 12.

UFC: Ultimate Fighting Championship

This was the most surprising announcement of EA’s press conference. EA has acquires a multi-year deal with UFC to make their titles. UFC president Dana White hopes that, with such a big publisher, they will be able to reach more people and expand the reach of UFC.

SimCity Social and SimCity

EA hopes to get back into the city builder simulation genre with the announcement of SimCity Social and SimCity. SimCity Social is a Facebook game. SimCity should be very familiar to those who have played a SimCity game before. However, this new entry adds data simulation, city specialization, and multiplayer.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted

This new Most Wanted title takes a lot from Burnout Paradise, but adds an element of connectivity to the game play. The game is a Open world racer, with a touch of arcade racer in its blood. The premise of the game is to become the most wanted person on your friend’s list. Having the fastest times and causing the most destruction improves your standing among the most wanted.

Battlefield 3 Premium

EA has now introduced a service similar to Call of Duty Elite. For $50, players will have access to all the downloadable content that will come out for Battlefield 3. Not only will players get the downloadable maps, they will also get new weapons, new vehicles, and new dog tags. These will all allow for more customization for payer characters.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

The Old Republic is coming out with many new features in the coming year. They are coming out with more PvP warzones, new companions and a nightmare game difficulty. A bigger addition is a whole new planet, Makeb, which has a storyline that deals with the Hutt cartel. EA has also decided to let players play up to level 15 absolutely free, which will, hopefully, bring even more players into this game.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter

Hoping to build upon the foundation set by the first Medal of Honor, Medal of Honor: Warfighter wants to become a big franchise like Call of Duty. New additions to gameplay include controllable gunbots, and the ability to choose what items to use for certain situations, like breaching doors. On the multiplayer front, EA introduced Global Warfighters, which allows players to choose which elite team they want to be part of and allows players to fight on their behalf.

Dead Space 3

Dead Space 3 starts up right after Dead Space 2 after he crash-lands on a snow planet. The game looks to have a bit more action to it and a little less atmosphere. They have also introduced co-op play to the series. Hopefully, with all these addition, the game keeps the creepiness and the scares of the previous games.

Crysis 3

One thing that can be said about Crysis 3 is that it looks absolutely beautiful. The preview shows that one again players will combine the armor and stealth abilities to take our opponents. The game also has more weapons that will deal out damage to enemies, most notably an awesome bow that can take out helicopters.
